CLIENT: Kai Tak Sports Park Ltd

LOCATION: Hong Kong

COLLABORATOR: Populous

As part of the Kai Tak Sports Park development in Hong Kong, CRAB was tasked with the design of the Children’s Play Area. This almost 6000 sqm area of the park is imagined as a visual framework for diverse ideas, taking theories of open-ended play and how children learn as a starting point. A colourful, bumpy landscape of moguls forms peaks, dells and openings as an immersive world of play, separate but linked to the rest of the site.

Distinct play themes are associated with each mogul, representing Earth, Water, Fire, Metal, and Wood. This exciting landscape encourages play for all, awakening the inner child in adults whilst fostering imaginative play for children. The design aims to lure children away from their small screens for physical, educational and immersive play at a variety of scales.
