CLIENT: Kai Tak Sports Park Limited

LOCATION: Hong Kong

COLLABORATOR: Populous

The Precision Approach Radar (PAR) building is the last remaining remnant of the famous former Kai Tak Airport within the Kai Tak Sports Park Masterplan in Hong Kong.

Persuading the client to retain a major part of site’s history, CRAB proposed to convert the PAR building to an aviation museum and exhibition hub. CRAB’s design includes a new canopy and landscape for other airport artefacts around the existing chequerboard building. The canopy further acts as an instrument to elevate visitors and orientate themselves to the past, with the PAR experiences showing the airport that used to be.

The PAR is a space for learning and contemplation, to understand technology of the past in a historic site whilst looking to the future.
